Growth

“For this very reason, you must make every effort to support your faith with goodness, and goodness with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness, and godliness with mutual affection, and mutual affection with love. For if these things are yours and are increasing among you, they keep you from being ineffective and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

—2 Peter 1:5-8 NRSV

Today many of us find ourselves home bound or at least going out a lot less than we use to. In all the chaos around us, God has granted us moments of peace, quiet, and self reflection.

But what do we do with all of this extra time?

Before you fill your bits of free time with more temporal stuff, consider the fact that your church may be closed for weeks to come. Yet this could still be a spiritual retreat, one that you and your household can enjoy together.

2 Peter 1:5-8 tells us that we can use these moments as a time for spiritual growth. We can add to our faith, add to our knowledge, add to our self discipline, add to our endurance, and because we have much more time with our family, we can add to our mutual affection and our love.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for blessing us even in the midst of trouble times. We are away from work and school, with more time to ourselves and with family than we have had in a long time. Inspire us to use these moments to grow spiritually, to put our faith in practice with those who are most close to us. Make our homes your home, a place where your love abides and genuine fellowship is felt. May our faith in you and our knowledge of you increase. In Jesus Name, Amen!

How can you use your time at home to grow spiritually?
